French Cheeses for the Connoisseur Assortment
French Cheese Assortment – Made for those cheese lovers with a taste for robust flavors and aromatic cheeses
We’ve curate an assortment of some of the finest French Cheeses. A great gift for yourself or he French food lover in your life!
Made for those cheese lovers with a taste for robust flavors and aromatic cheeses. Our French Cheeses for the Connoisseur is perfect for a Francophile-centric fromagier, or anyone looking to enjoy some bold selections of French cheese classics. We have included four of our favorites (a virtually impossible decision). Cheeses include:
- Pont L’Eveque: One of the world’s ancient cheeses, Pont L’Eveque is a small washed-rind cheese that dates back to the Thirteenth Century. It is well known for its delicate bouquet, which is said to be reminiscent of the Norman countryside. However, it does tend to have a strong, pungent aroma that is not for the timid. (8 oz)
- Comte Reserve: Comte is made with fresh Alpine milk and formed into 80-pound wheels. This extraordinary cheese is a noticeable upgrade from our base Comte, more complex and nutty. Comte Reserve has a pronounced nose and is a divine treasure cherished by connoisseurs. (7.5 oz)
- Buche de Chevre: This wonderful goat’s milk cheese from Poitou in the Loire Valley comes to us in handcrafted wooden crates the most exquisite chevre we have ever tasted! When enjoying this cheese, you savor a delightful combination of flavors and textures in each bite. Buche de Chevre is a true delicacy that begs for a warm, crusty French baguette and a glass of robust red wine from neighboring Bordeaux. (7.5 oz)
- Fourme d’Ambert: This AOC (name controlled) creamy blue cheese is a lovely French treasure. Fourme d’Ambert is cave-aged for a minimum of two months, made from raw cow’s milk and has a tremendous, creamy, full-bodied flavor. (7.5 oz)
Kindly note, any item temporary out of stock will be replaced with an equal or greater value item.

French Comte Reserve Cheese
French Comte Reserve Cheese
Comte is an Alpine cheese similar to Swiss Gruyère but made across the border in the French Jura region. Flavors vary in intensity based on the season, production techniques and, most importantly, age. This 10 Month Reserve from Seignemartin is a terrific example, offering persistent notes of apricot, hazelnuts and toffee. A wonderfully versatile cheese, Comte Reserve is great for snacking as well as for cooking. It also pairs well with almost any wine, especially whites and light-bodied reds.
Comté is made in a unique manner. Its milk is delivered from the farm to fruitières daily, where cheese is made. It is then passed on to affineurs who age the cheese in optimal conditions. Seignemartin’s maître affineur (cave master) supervises each and every wheel with constant care. Salting, rubbing, flipping, and monitoring are all key components of the aging process for this spectacular French cheese.
- Made from unpasteurized cow’s milk; aged for a minimum of 10 months
- Whole form is 70 pounds.
- We cut and wrap this item by hand.
French Buche de Chevre Cheese
French Buche de Chevre Cheese
This wonderful goat’s milk cheese, from Poitou in the Loire Valley, comes to us in handcrafted wooden crates containing two, four-pound logs of the most exquisite chevre we have ever tasted! Each Buche de Chevre is aged for two months, during which time it develops a hard, edible crust complete with a bloomy white coating. It is sharp and tangy near the rind and gets progressively richer and creamier toward the center. When enjoying this cheese, you savor a delightful combination of flavors and textures in each bite. Buche de Chevre is a true delicacy that begs for a warm, crusty French baguette and a glass of robust red wine from neighboring Bordeaux, or a crisp White from the Loire Valley.
- Made from pasteurized goat’s milk.
- Photo depicts whole 3.85 lb form of cheese.
- We cut and wrap this item by hand.
French Fourme d’Ambert AOP Raw Milk Blue Cheese
French Fourme d’Ambert AOP Raw Milk Blue Cheese
This AOC (name controlled) creamy blue cheese is a lovely French treasure. “Fourme” is the old French word for cheese from the Latin noun forma, describing its cylindrical shape. Ambert is the mountainous town in Auvergne where the cheese is made. The people of this town have been making Fourme d’Ambert since the 7th century! That makes this cheese as old as Roquefort. Fourme d’Ambert is high in moisture and compact in texture, so the blue mould does not spread in veins like other Blues. Rather, it forms in distinct, disconnected pockets. Compared to Blue Stilton, it is much creamier and, therefore, less crumbly. Fourme d’Ambert is cave-aged for a minimum of two months, made from raw cow’s milk, and has a tremendous, creamy, full-bodied flavor.
- Made from unpasteurized cow’s milk.
- Photo depicts whole 5.5 lb. form of cheese.
- We cut and wrap this item by hand.
