Product Description
Prepare For a Straight-Razor Shave
- Cleanse Your Face: It’s important to start with clean skin. Use a gentle facial cleanser to remove dirt, excess oil, and dead skin cells that can interfere with the razor’s glide. You can use your hands or a soft cloth to gently massage the cleanser into your skin, then rinse with warm water. This not only cleanses your skin but also helps to soften your facial hair in preparation for shaving.
- Exfoliate: Exfoliating helps to further prepare your skin by removing dead skin cells that can clog your pores and cause irritation. Use a gentle facial scrub and apply it in circular motions, paying particular attention to areas where you have more facial hair. Rinse with warm water. Exfoliating can also help lift your facial hair, making it easier to get a close shave.
- Apply a Pre-Shave Oil: Pre-shave oil is designed to further soften your facial hair and prepare your skin for the razor.
Soaking the Beard
- Lather Up: Apply a shaving cream or soap to your beard. You can do this with a shaving brush, which helps to lift your facial hair and distribute the shaving cream evenly. The lather provides a barrier between your skin and the blade, allowing the razor to slide easily and reducing friction.
- Hot Towel Treatment (Optional): For an extra level of comfort and preparation, you can apply a hot towel to your face after you’ve lathered up. The heat and moisture from the towel will further soften your beard and open your pores, making it easier for the razor to cut through the hair. Simply soak a towel in hot water, wring it out, and then drape it over your face for a few minutes.
Shave With a Straight Edge Razor
Shave: Now you’re ready to shave. Hold the straight razor at a 30-degree angle to your skin and use short, light strokes. Shave in the direction of your hair growth, not against it. This reduces the risk of irritation and ingrown hairs. Be patient and take your time, especially if you’re new to using a straight razor.
Rinse and Moisturize for Skin Care
Rinse and Moisturize: After you’ve finished shaving, rinse your face with cool water. This will help to close your pores and calm your skin. Then apply an aftershave balm or lotion to soothe and moisturize your skin. Avoid products that contain alcohol, as they can dry out your skin.
